IT Transformation at a European Medical Testing Company
Our Client
Our client, a Swiss healthcare and medical testing company with facilities across Europe and the Middle East, had grown through acquisition and focussed on its market penetration and geographical expansion. Its IT estate hadn’t kept pace with the business expansion and consequently was less flexible and more costly.
Our Role
Alongside the Global CIO, we created an initial diagnostic and formulated an IT strategy and accompanying IT Transformation, to address the extant IT issues and to meet the business vision.
We then deployed a small team, reporting to the Global CIO, to run the IT Transformation, taking key roles such as Transformation Director, Communications and Change, technical project managers.
The transformation addressed issues across the whole IT stack. Starting from specifying and procuring an MPLS to SD-WAN network migration, we rolled out a single identity solution to everybody in the company so that we could enable single sign-on as well as deliver on a single email and document service.
We worked with the client’s internal IT and procurement teams to specify and select an MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) to provide the assurance that is required when handling sensitive medical data across multiple data jurisdictions.
We led the teams rolling out tooling and monitoring software, allowing the client to deploy applications and updates to enhance security and deliver business capability in much shorter timescales than previously possible.
Refractis worked closely with the client’s senior leadership to manage the delivery, keeping a watchful eye on the overall business case and the resultant benefits. Sometimes this meant reorganising the work schedule and prioritise to match changing business and market demands.
Results
The programme continues, but we initiated the migration of over 900 testing sites across western Europe, created identities and harmonised the document storage and collaboration for over 15,000 employees. We rolled out a security overlay for its end-user compute and server infrastructure, and introduced 24x7 global monitoring with a well-recognised provider. Lastly, we put in place the tools, processes and governance to allow the client to continue delivering the transformation and maintain alignment with the strategy and often-changing market regulations.
